4 UNIQUE WAYS TO ROCK A WHITE BUTTON DOWN

Hey lovelies! I hope you are having an amazing week. I’m here with the first “how to style” post of 2020, and it’s a goodie! This year, I have been gravitating towards more tailored silhouettes. I think mixing in casual elements with structured pieces creates a unique outfit full of personality.

What piece of clothing do we all have in our closets (or at least I hope so)? The classic white button down. I always like mine a bit oversized + slouchy, since I am petite and generally tuck it in or cinch It with a waist belt. A slightly oversized white button down is the most versatile piece of clothing I own, and I’m here to show my my four favorite ways to style it into unique + chic outfits.

As you babes know, I love a cinched waist. You will find me rocking a waist belt at least 70% of the time. I picked out this adorable button down shirt dress from Femme Luxe (pictured above), and paired it with an under-bust corset with boning. I purposely buttoned them off center. This dress already has flattering tailoring at the waist, but pairing it with a belt takes it up a notch. This look is masculine, yet feminine and totally sexy. You can also get this look by cinching an oversized white button down shirt. If you’ve thrifted a slightly oversized Oxford, and it is an awkward length (you know that length that hits about an inch above your knee and makes you look like you have super short legs?). Well, I have a little trick for you. Consider layering your top over white bike shorts and adding a waist cinching belt or belt bag to help shorten the length. This look is SO flattering, and is one of my go-to’s when I want to look effortlessly chic. It is also an insanely budget friendly look, since you can snag bike shorts for under $5 and thrift an oxford for under $10. A tucked in button down has always been a power look to me. Growing up, all the fashion movies portrayed successful women with blunt haircuts and tailored shirts tucked perfectly into a pencil skirt. I’ve always been a fan of this vibe, but I prefer it to be made a little more fun and casual. Pairing a white button down with a honey brown leather skirt is not only a gorgeous color palate, but a flattering silhouette on any body shape. You can play with the length of your skirt and opt for a midi to elevate your look, or make it more date night friendly with a mini. I also love the look of a half tuck if you want to make your look a bit more casual for daytime.

Another fun way to style an oversized button down is by tucking it into a cut-out skirt. This adds some edge and keeps people guessing.

Pairing a blazer with a white button down doesn’t have to be boring. Another way to rock your oversized Oxford is as a dress with an oversized blazer or trench thrown over. I personally love this look when it is paired with tonal knee high boots and a classic clutch. You can opt for a checkered blazer or a simple white blazer, both look incredible and will easily become some of your wardrobe favorites. It’s an easy look to dress up with some heels, or dress down with some doc martens. Dont be afraid to throw an oversized bag, or a pop of color!

Tonal looks are always a good idea. If you are in a rush and need something to thrown on in a pinch and still look perfectly put together, reach for some beige trousers and a tailored white button down. When pairing with trousers, I prefer my top to be true to size or slightly slouchy vs totally oversized. If you are going for a more casual + sexy daytime date look, leave your top mostly unbuttoned and tuck it into high waisted trousers. This look is classy, sensual, and sexy without being sleazy. Throw your hair into an undone ponytail and pair your favorite gold earrings with layered gold necklaces and you have an effortlessly beautiful outfit.
